Update August 27, four week photos: I took the pig rail
out of the whelping box earlier in the
week as the pups had gotten so big they
needed more space. Also they had
learned that if they climbed on the pig
rail they could go out the opening, so I
had to put the door in to keep them
inside. Finally yesterday afternoon I
found six of the nine walking around on
the floor outside the whelping box so it
was time to transfer them into the
expen. They are now sleeping on beds
at one end and moving out across the
board onto training paper.
Soon
they will start being weaned, and will
have some goat's milk and baby rice
cereal. I'll post some pictures of that
when they are eating and walking in the
gruel. So cute!

Three week photos: Whitney was finally
willing to leave the pups for enough
time so I could clip off her shaggy coat
(I would have clipped it before they
were born, but she surprised me with the
timing!). She's much more comfortable
now with less hair in the warm room with
the pups climbing all over her.
Meanwhile, the pups are beginning to
become interested in a toy that's in the
whelping box with them. |

Here are the two-week-old pups, around
August 14. In these photos their eyes
are just starting to open and they are
beginning to hear. They are also
getting up on their legs and starting to
walk. They often topple over,
however, as their legs aren't quite
strong enough to hold them. In the
three-week photos they'll be moving
well. |
