I'll always
remember Bettina as a young,
sweet poodle shown by Beth
Paynter.
Bettina was a great
ambassador for the breed.
She was always happy to
greet visitors under the
grooming tent and loved the
attention. She was very
friendly, and she loved to
jump up on you light as a
feather to dance around with
you. She used to spend more
time on her hind legs then
she did on all four, thus
her nickname, Bettina
Ballerina. (I had to resist
naming her that as her
registered name!)
Beautiful Bettina retired to
a private home in
Washington, DC at age seven
to live with her dam,
Hillary (photos below).
They were wonderful
companions for one another.
Bettina and Hillary were
regulars at Georgetown
University, where they
entertained the students as
unofficial mascots and
friends of Jack the Bulldog.
They
even marched with the
Provost in the New Student
Convocation, and
Poodle
Review
ran a story
about it.
She
lived to a little past age
12, and was healthy until
the last. With her
gentle temperament and long,
lean beauty, people always
mistook her for a much
younger girl. She met
Sebastian Junger and
Madeleine Albright, she
traveled to Clearwater,
Florida every winter for a
long holiday vacation, and
she loved
Honeymoon Island, where
she ran with Hillary and
later Dahlia (INT CH
ParrisHill Dahlia at
Twilight) in the gentle surf
chasing tennis balls.

This is the last photo taken
of her (r) with Dahlia on
Georgetown Day, Friday April
30, 2010. She is smiling with one of her Georgetown
student dogsitters, Paola,
and a friendly med student
passing by. |
The photos below were taken in 2003
when Hillary and Bettina posed
for the Versatility in Poodles
annual calendar.
